President’s Convocation - RAIN PLAN IN EFFECT
RAIN PLAN IN EFFECT - Koeppel Community Sports Center, 175 New Britain Avenue

Evoking the pageantry and spectacle stemming from the earliest days of the academy in Western Civilization, this formal ceremony marks the beginning of the College’s 193rd academic year. The President’s Convocation offers faculty, staff, and upper-year students the occasion to welcome new scholars into the community formally and to surround them with Trinity’s history.Faculty members in full regalia and first-year students will gather at the Koeppel Community Sports Center. Fanfares from the Quiet City Brass Quintet and Tympani will accompany the faculty and student procession.

During the Convocation ceremony, parents, faculty, student leaders, and members of the administrative staff will be seated behind the first-year class, forming a symbolic matrix of support as the class begins its years at Trinity. The highlight of this memorable occasion is Trinity College President Joanne Berger-Sweeney’s Convocation address, her most important to students each year. The ceremony concludes with the declaration of the opening of the College’s 193rd academic year by Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor of American Studies, Tim Cresswell.

The mathematics placement exam must be completed by ALL incoming first-year students before the first day of classes on September 6, 2016. The exam evaluates students on a variety of skills and is used both to determine Quantitative Literacy–one of Trinity’s foundational requirements that all students must fulfill–and to place students accurately in courses with a significant quantitative component. ALL incoming students must complete the exam even if they do not plan to take math courses or major in math or science. Specific topics addressed in the exam include, but are not limited to, numerical relationships, algebraic relationships, and logical relationships. You will need to bring a scientific calculator and a No. 2 pencil to the exam. Calculators on cell phones may NOT be used.
Email Prof. Russo (paula.russo@trincoll.edu) to take the qualifying calculus exam if you wish to place out of Math 131 and/or 132.
